Kosuke Sato and Taya Kohmen were the top finishers in last Friday’s 24th Annual Tom Picarro Memorial Fun Run.
Sato was first to round the seven-kilometer course that started and ended at the Chamolinian Utt in Garapan with a turnaround point near the Quartermaster Road after clocking in at 23:24. Kohmen was fourth overall, but the first female finisher as she checked in at the 29:14 mark. The men’s and women’s overall champions each received a watch with DFS Saipan president Marian Aldan-Pierce handing the prizes to the winners.
DFS Saipan/T Galleria, which organized the race that is held annually in honor of the company’s former president Tom Picarro, also recognized the top finishers in seven age groups.
In the U12 division, Takeru Jim took the top honors in the boys division, while Caydince Masga was the winner in the girls. John Navarro and Nicole Loste ruled the 13 to 19 age group, while John Kim and Emily Qui prevailed in the 20 to 30 division.
In the 31 to 40 category, Taylor Dunn led the men’s finishers, while Christian Foo stood out in the women’s. Ronald Villafria and Akana Imaya reigned supreme in the 41 to 50 division; Edmundo Bata and Amalia Harris topped the 51 to 60 age group; and Paul Khang in the over 61 category. Each age group finishers received gifts from DFS Saipan/T Galleria, while other runners won pre-drawn raffle prizes.
Over 80 runners joined the Silver Streak with proceeds from the fundraiser going to Maturana House of Prayer, according to DFS’ Ben Babauta. Organizers are expecting more runners will participate in next year’s race.
“We will have a bigger race next year because we will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of Silver Streak. We will also have more and bigger prizes,” Aldan-Pierce said.
