Tinian Junior Senior High School’s Tyler Santos and Marianas High School’s Jamie Pangelinan won the Northern Marianas Sports Association/Tan Siu Lin Foundation Student Athlete of the Month awards for May after their outstanding performance in the 2019 Public School System/McDonald’s All Schools Track and Field Championships.

Santos ruled four running events in last month’s track meet, as he topped the 400m, 800m, 1,500, and 3,000m races. His success in the boys U18 division competition also earned him the top athlete award from tournament sponsor McDonald’s.

Pangelinan, on the other hand, reigned supreme in the sprints events—100m and 200m—and took the silver medal in the long jump and javelin throw to share the most outstanding athlete recognition with Santos. The MHS student was the recipient of the same award last year.

Both Pangelinan and Santos will head to Townsville in Queensland, Australia later this month to represent the CNMI in the 2019 Oceania Athletics Championships.

The two students will be competing in the U18 events along with Leani Acosta, Traven Quitugua, Oldie Joe Roligat, and Theyvie They. Completing the team are Zarinae Sapong and Gabriel Sappa, who are joining the opening division.

Pangelinan will be racing in the qualifying heats for the U18’s 100m and 200m runs, while Santos will be the CNMI’s bet in the 800m and 1,500m events.
