Santos is new NMC Foundation president

The Northern Marianas College Foundation announced yesterday that it has a new president in the person of Joseph C. Santos, who succeeds Dr. Alan Stuart Markoff to the post.

According to Santos, the Foundation is very enthusiastic about fundraising to assist NMC in accomplishing its mission and is excited about working with the community.

He announced yesterday the upcoming 11th NMC Foundation Open golf tournament scheduled on June 28 at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort. This event is the foundation’s biggest fundraiser every year.

“We humbly seeking the community’s support for the upcoming in both participation and sponsorship,” said Santos, adding that all gifts and donations will directly benefit NMC in advancing educational opportunities for all students.

Santos also congratulated the college for the recent reaffirmation of its accreditation.

“Congratulations to NMC on the being reaffirmed as an accredited community college, a magnificent accomplishment by the Board of Regents and [NMC] president [Dr. Sharon] Hart,” said Santos.

The Board of Regents established the NMC Foundation in 1999. It is a non-profit organization and its primary task is to handle a federal endowment fund of $3 million for the college.

The foundation’s board of directors is composed Markoff, Santos, David Burger, Jerry Facey, Bud White, David Sablan, Jack Kiyoshi, Lillian Cabrera, and Michael Ernest.
