Jun “Shocker” Santos and Mark Butac bested separate rivals to rule the weekly darts and billiards tournament organized by the Saipan Electronic Darts Association and the Saipan Billiards Association every Wednesday at 7pm at Jonny’s Bar & Grill in Garapan.

Santos, a two-division most valuable player in the last SEDA season, scored an upset in beating Gilbert Gatmaitan in the finals of the one-day darts tournament.

Gatmaitan downed June “Awesome” Nunez, Jeff “Joker” Barit, Alfred Hocog, and Santos to breeze through in the finals. He, however, lost to Santos in the title game.

Santos, for his part, dropped to the loser’s bracket after that loss to Gatmaitan where he needed to get past Jayson “The Fire” John in order to arrange another showdown with his elimination round tormentor.

He also scored wins over Erwin Clavecillas, Joey Pangelinan, and John in the eliminations before losing to Gatmaitan.

Santos went home with $110, a trophy, and a SEDA shirt, while Gatmaitan settled for the $70 runner-up purse and also a SEDA shirt.

Carter “Ace” Calma, Boom “Bang” Cruz, Paul “The Flash” Quizon, “Kevin KJ” Villagomez, Leo Santos, Leo Wania, James Benavente, Vince Repeki, Darol Atalig, and Claro Bicol were also among the 18 players who joined the double-elimination round tournament, which collected a $10 entry fee.

Butac went undefeated in claiming the billiards crown beating the likes of last week’s winner Ray Matsunaga,Nolan Cultura, and Rico Montano in the double-eliminations before dispatching Boyet Sequico in the championship mach.

Butac’s efforts earned him $50, a trophy, and a water park pass for two at Pacific Islands Club. Sequioco went home with $30 and an SBA shirt

Erwin Gomez, Rey Hermogenes, and Robert Lieberwirth were the other players that paid the $10 entrance fee to join the tournament.

The island’s power is not yet fully restored in some areas and that is why SEDA and SBA could not get their season going. Most of the bars participating in both leagues remain closed after Typhoon Soudelor almost wiped out the island’s power lines.

The one-day, double-elimination round weekly events are both organized by Pacific Amusement Inc. in cooperation with MARPAC, Budweiser, and Bud Light.
