San Jose won its first game of the season in its last outing then followed it up with an upset of favored San Vicente last Saturday in the women’s division of the 2022 Marianas Village Pride Basketball League.

San Vicente essentially played San Jose to a standstill majority of the game until a late rally by the latter caught the former by surprise.

San Jose finally took the lead with five minutes left in the ballgame and former national player Irish Pagarao gave them a 42-40 lead time down to 4:05.

Werly Breakenridge then made it a 4-point spread, 44-40, before Mary Kay Alferos’ 3 made it 47-40 with 1:40 left in the contest,

Angel Roligat had a personal 4-0 run on a triple and a split from the free throw line to make it 47-44 with less than 20 seconds left.

However, that was San Vicente’s last gasp as they missed triples that could’ve forced overtime.

Pagarao had a team-high 13 points for the victors, which also got 11 from Alferos. Destiny Pangelinan was unstoppable in the first half with her 3-point bombs, but the national player sputtered in the end. Pangelinan still wound up with a game-high 23 points, while Roligat added 8 in support.

The win improved San Jose’s record to 2-5, while San Vicente dropped only its second game in six tries.

In other results last Saturday, Kagman won via default against Oleai in the boys 13 division. It was Kagman’s sixth win in seven games, while Oleai dropped to 4-4.

In the boys 18, Tanapag beat San Antonio, 60-51, for its fourth win against a single loss. Tanapag was led by the 17 points of Gino Rasg and 10 points of Nobet Hocog.
