Two more wins this week extended San Antonio’s run in the 2014 DL Corp. Invitational Basketball League to four.

Both victories were via routes, as San Antonio hammered Olivos Team last Sunday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium, 100-79, and then crushed Puerto Rico Bento last Tuesday, 119-61. San Antonio’s posted its first two triumphs against the Pelicans and defending champion Docomo Pacific.

In its latest blowout win, San Antonio went for the jugular right in the first quarter, erupting for 27 points for the early double-digit lead, 27-6. The younger and faster San Antonio crew bombarded its depleted foe with fastbreak layups and undergoal shots. Puerto Rico played without big men Kelvin Fitial and Larry Sharry and was held to two field goals in the first period. Martin Moreno and Joel Saplan had one field goals each with the former adding two more free throws in their lackluster first quarter performance.

Puerto Rico never recovered from thereon to remain winless in four games.

In the first game, TBK Mechanics also notched a double-digit winning margin against Docomo Pacific, 107-84.

TBK outgunned Docomo in the first and third quarters to improve to a 3-1 record and hand the defending champion its third loss in four games. TBK got off to a jackrabbit start, exploding for 31 points against only 20 from Docomo. Donnel Isip anchored TBK’s good start, as he nailed three triples and scored 11 points in the opening canto.

In the second period, the opposing teams were pretty even with Docomo getting 24 points versus the 22 of TBK. TBK then threw more punches in the third, 24-14, to pad its lead, 75-58, while it matched almost every basket Docomo converted in the fourth to protect the twin-digit lead.

In other results in the DL Corp. caging, Island Manpower topped Maplas, 98-88; TBK downed the Pelicans, 101-93; and Shocker Nation defeated Puerto Rico, 97-84.
