San Antonio won only its second straight game in the women’s division of the 2022 Marianas Village Pride Basketball League last Dec. 27 at the Gillette Multi-Purpose Center.

San Antonio’s Kaitlyn Chavez was engaged in a scoring duel with San Vicente’s Destiny Pangelinan all game long. But in the end, the former had more support as San Antonio won 62-45 to improve to 2-6, while dealing San Vicente its third loss in seven outings.

Curiously, it was Aaleyah Fatialofa who started hostilities for San Antonio as she punctured the hoops for 12 points in the first 20 minutes of action to tow her team to a 29-18 lead at the half.

Pangelinan was a one-man wrecking crew for San Vicente, firing all but 4 of her team’s 18 points in the first half.

Chavez then beat San Vicente’s whole point total in the first half, exploding for 19 of her 25 total points to lead her team to the 17-point romp.

Fatialofa finished with 19 points and Mia Abuan 12 for San Antonio, while Pangelinan tossed in a game-high 35 markers.

In other games last Dec. 27, Tanapag leaned on Louis Rectitud’s late-game heroics to edge Finasisu, 46-45, in the boys 13 division.

Rectitud scored his team’s last 5 points to finish with 10 points. Dane Tibayan’s 14 markers led Tanapag, which improved to 6-2 in the season.

Jairus Pangelinan was brilliant in defeat, pumping in 17 points for the now 3-5 Finasisu squad.

In the boys 18, Dandan kept San Vicente winless in five games while evening its record to 2-2 following a 66-36 demolition job.

Marl Balignasay paced Dandan’s balanced attack with 14 points, while the 11 of Kobe Imperial led San Vicente.

Last Dec. 26, Kagman remained atop the totem pole in the boys 13 after drubbing winless Garapan, 55-23.

Peyton Pangelinan’s 11 points paced the now 7-1 Kagman team, while Leon Galarse shot 15 points in Garapan’s eighth consecutive loss.

Dandan still leads the women’s division after edging Garapan, 34-29. Connie Camacho had 12 points in Dandan’s fifth win in six tries, while the now 3-3 Garapan was led by the 10 points of Madeleine Alegre.

In the boys 18, Koblerville drew four double-digit scoring games from its players as they beat Chalan Kiya, 65-39.

Koblerville, which improved to 4-1, was spearheaded by the 19 points of Justin Mateo, while D.K. Fiden (15), Airson Atan (14), and Tynk Basa (10) also came away with 10 or more points.

Lushawn Reyes’ 16 markers paced Chalan Kiya, which has just one win in five tries so far this season.

San Antonio 62 – Chavez 25, Aa. Fatialofa 19, Abuan 12, Enriquez 6.
San Vicente 45 – Pangelinan 35, Deleon Guerrero 4, Cabrera 2, Roligat 2.
Scoring by halves: 29-18, 62-45.
