San Antonio Elementary joins ‘Beautify My Marianas’
San Antonio Elementary recently joined the list of growing groups supporting the tourism industry through “Beautify My Marianas,” an island beautification project providing cash for cleanup projects. “Beautify My Marianas” is administered by the Marianas Visitors Authority and the Saipan Chamber of Commerce.
The school’s MY WAVE (Marianas Youth Welcome All Visitors Enthusiastically) Club cleaned up from San Antonio Beach Park to San Antonio Beach last month, netting 120 lbs of trash.

“A majority were cigarette buds (sic) that were left around the pavilion, used diapers, broken bottles, plastic products, and cans,” said the club in their report. “Along the way we found additional trash, such as a pile of burnt trash left on the beachside sand and trash that was abandoned along the dirt road leading up to San Antonio School.”
“Beautify My Marianas” aims to keep the Northern Marianas clean and pristine and offers a minimum of $100 to groups to pick up trash in designated areas on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota. Depending on the level of difficulty and the type of project (e.g., trash cleaning with some tree trimming or brush cutting), the $100 fee may be increased. Applying groups must meet all eligibility guidelines.
Applications are available at www.mymarianas.com and www.saipanchamber.com, the MVA, or SCC, and upon approval of their application, groups will be assigned an area that requires clean up. It will be up to the group submitting their application to decide how many people will clean the area and when the cleanup will be accomplished.
Approved groups must provide before, during and after photos of the site, as evidence of the cleanup prior to disbursement of funds.
Participants in the San Antonio Elementary cleanup were Alayssha Mondido, Mariechrist Castro, Kyla T., Elisha Posadas, Merari Aniga, Sheila Pascual, Loren Obrero, Joemari Pulido, Chioni Dela Cruz, Kevin Ada, Jethro Famacurlano, Noime Mangalinao, Raymond Caleb Dejillas, Marylou Dejillas, and Virginia Richards.
