Paul Salalila won the Saipan Radio Control Racers’ A main and open divisions 1/10 stock electric short course events in the group’s monthly March races held last weekend at their track in As Lito.
Jude Dickinson came into the A main finals as the top qualifier, but Salalila’s TraXXas Slash broke away from the pack in the final heat and led 10 of the 15 laps. Salalila posted a field-low 18.54-second lap time for a swift victory, maintaining a 30.06-second average per lap. He finished the race just a hair above seven and a half minutes (07:30.94).
Rodney Catalla came in at second place with his HPI Blitz for a 30.69-second average through 14 laps, while Dickinson (TraXXas Slash) settled for third place with a 30.88-second revolution rate.
Other A main participants were Jojo Saracho (31.76 seconds/14 laps), newcomer Lenmark Diaz (33.74 seconds/13 laps) and Leo Gatus (35.30seconds /12 laps).
Salalila also navigated his way to victory lane in the open division in his Kyosho Ultima SC. He came into the finals as the top qualifier and crossed the line ahead of Catalla (HPI Blitz) and Jude Dickinson (Team Associated SC-10).
Notably Diaz graduated into the A main class last weekend after taking the top honors in the B event. Diaz took the pole in the B qualifier, beating Emir Abuan and Butter Dickinson. All three podium finishers drove Traxxas Slash trucks.
James Salalila was also victorious in the March races, as he topped the young gun category.
James’ Kyosho Ultima SC took the pole in the preliminaries and went on to speed away against runner-up Kodin Diaz (Team Losi XXX-SCT) and third finisher Adam Salalila (Team Associated SC-10).
Last weekend’s racers are among the more than 20 active SRCR members who regularly take part in the group’s practices every Sunday in As Lito. The public is welcome to check out the track and learn more about the hobby/sport. Contact Rodney Catalla at 256-7119 for more information.
