Saipan writers workshop on Jan 27, 2018
Are you an aspiring author? Do you have a book idea? Have you always wanted to write and publish “The Great Marianas novel” or memoir, a non-fiction “how to” manual, or book of poetry or photographs? Or do you need to establish yourself as an expert in your field with a book to your credit? Looking for tips on how to overcome writer’s block? Well you can, and it’s easier than you think!
Local resident, Walt F.J. Goodridge, is author of over 24 books in a variety of genres. His books have been used as texts for university courses, as guides by other coaches, and his ideas have been quoted in books by “Guerrilla Marketing” guru Jay Conrad Levinson, music industry pioneer Chuck D, and other business authors worldwide. He’s been featured in Time Magazine, Entrepreneur, Wall St. Journal, and other publications.
Goodridge has written several books about Saipan including Jamaican on Saipan, Chicken Feathers & Garlic Skin: Diary of a Chinese Garment Factory Girl on Saipan, Saipan Living, Doing Business on Saipan, Saipan Now: a photo adventure, There’s Something About Saipan, and From Bugle Boy to Battle Ship: a Battle of Saipan Veteran’s Memoir. He has also coached, edited, or “ghost-written” other books including When the Walls Came Down by Ken Greene (a 9/11 memoir), Rucksack to Briefcase by Chief Raymond (a military to civilian-side transition guide), and, with local CHCC nurse Riza Ramos, he’s collaborated on The Boy Who Dreamed to Be With His Parents on Saipan, GermStopper Boy and Drinking Seawater (a Soudelor memoir), and guided them from idea to Amazon sales!
During this lively, interactive three-hour workshop, Goodridge will share tips and step-by-step instructions on how to start a book project, overcome “writer’s block,” find the best and worst times to write, edit your book, how to tell when it’s ready, and how to go from idea to sales in 24 hours or less!
The workshop will be held on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, from 12pm to 3pm, at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library’s video teleconference toom. Admission is $10 in advance, and $12 at the door. Twenty percent of admission proceeds will be donated directly to the library on the day of the event.
Seating is limited. To register, visit the front desk of the library. For more information, learn more about Walt, and to see some success stories from past workshops, visit www.saipanwriters.com. (PR)
