The Saipan Little League All-Stars shut down Rota in the 2016 CNMI District Tournament held over the weekend on Tinian to earn the right to represent the Commonwealth to the regional competition.

The John Maratita-managed squad faced a tough stance from Rota in the opening game before pulling off a 3-2 win and then cruised to victories in Game 2, 6-0, and Game 3, 16-6, for the sweep and a ticket to the 2016 Asia Pacific Regional Tournament.

The Little League ASPAC will be held in Seoul, South Korea from June 23 to July 2 with the Saipan bets, who will now be known as the CNMI Little League All-Stars, up against qualifiers from the host, Guam, Chinese-Taipei, the Philippines, Indonesia, China, and New Zealand.

The CNMI Little League All-Stars are composed of players who had an outstanding showing in the 2016 Saipan Little League Baseball. Vincent Nakamura of the champions Comets leads the roster, which also includes Reid Teregeyo, Alexiana Tyquiengco, Delbert Sablan, Ken Kaipat, Tristan Norita, Kyle Kapileo, Joven Reyes, Justin Agulto, Nathan Aizon, Heath Camacho, Eliray Castro, Patrick Celis, and Alvin Hocog. Completing the squad and joining Maratita on the officials list are head coach George Camacho and his assistant Cal Deleon Guerrero.

Meanwhile, with neither Tinian nor Rota fielding teams in the Junior, Big, and Senior league divisions, Saipan’s selections were automatically given the chance to represent the CNMI in the ASPAC.

The regional tournament for Junior League will take place in Taiwan with the CNMI Junior All-Stars to be managed by Manny Evangelista, who guided the Falcons to the division championship in the SLLB against the Kagman Enforcers.

In the Senior League, the Commonwealth players, who will be managed by Lawrence Camacho, will go to the Philippines for the ASPAC.

In the Big League, the Jonathan Tenorio-managed CNMI crew will head to Nanjing, China. Competition will run from July 5 to 10 at the Dongshan Foreign Language School Ballpark with the CNMI Big League All-Stars battling teams from the host, Chinese-Taipei, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Guam.
