Saipan Southern, MHS Varsity sweep opening games

Saipan Southern High School and Marianas High School Varsity posted similar 2-0 records during the kick-off of the 2019-2020 Public School System Interscholastic Girls High School Basketball League last Thursday at the MHS Gymnasium.
The Lady Dolphins played in one of the two opening matches in the competition and crushed MHS Junior Varsity on the north court, 34-10. For its second game, MHS Varsity was paired against Grace Christian Academy and eased its way to a 42-7 triumph, also on the north court.
The second game on the north court had Saipan Southern dominating Kagman High School, 29-12, and after its opening win, the former slipped past Mt. Carmel School on the southern court, 22-21.
The Lady Knights, before the sorry defeat to the Lady Rays, also had a close match against the GCA Lady Eagles and eked out a 13-11 victory on the south court.
Agape Christian School saw action on the south court, too, and defeated MHS JV, 18-16.
Meanwhile, action in the girls high school caging resumed yesterday with MHS Varsity hoping to keep its unbeaten record as it faced Kagman in the first game on the north court and Mt. Carmel in the third and last match. Also scheduled on the north court was the duel between MHS JV and Saipan Southern.
For their second game yesterday, the Lady Rays were pitted against Agape in the last match on the south court. Before battling Saipan Southern, Agape was also slated to meet Mt. Carmel, while GCA had only one match last night as it squared off against Kagman.
