Saipan Soccer School to hold football festival
Saipan Soccer School will cap its 2014 Summer Camp with a football festival on Aug. 30 at the TSL Sports Complex.
The festival will run from 9am to 11:30 am with participants in the U8 and U10 age groups competing in a round-robin mini tournament. SSS staff and camp facilitator Jershwin Angeles said four teams will compete in each age group and they will play in a round-robin competition. Each game will be played for five minutes and the team with the most points (based on wins) will be declared champion. Prizes await the winners in the festival.
“The festival is our way of gauging how far the participants have gone since joining the summer camp that started last month. It’s also our way of involving the participants’ parents as they will be invited to watch the games. We’ve been seeing first time participants with promising skills and parents also noticed improvements from their children since the start of the camp,” Angeles said.
Around 40 children are enrolled in the camp, which is divided into three sessions, and SSS had to limit enrollees to give participants more time and focus during drills.
“We do drills in fun ways. We tried to incorporate fun in every session we have so we could encourage more participants. So far, a lot of them are interested and enjoying the drills. The parents are happy, too, seeing their kids learning basic football skills and socializing with other children,” Angeles said.
