Saipan school gets a new music teacher
McCaslin
The Saipan Community School announced yesterday the hiring of Anne McCaslin, who will be the new concert band leader and elementary music teacher. Music is a very important part of the full education our students at SCS receive due to the proven academic, social, and personal benefits that music education provides.
McCaslin was born in San Jose, California, and raised in Spokane, Washington. She has an extensive background in both instrumental and choral music, having had ensembles showcased at such venues as Downtown Disney in Disney World, and various venues in Seoul, Sokcho, and Gyeongju, South Korea. She attended college at Washington State University, with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education and a separate bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
While teaching at SCS, McCaslin will be responsible for directing the SCS concert band for the beginning, intermediate, and advanced band classes. In addition she will be teaching elementary music for Kindergarten through 5th grade, teaching ukulele to grades 3rd to 5th.
“I am so excited to be working at Saipan Community School. I look forward to continuing and expanding upon the tradition of excellence SCS is known for, as well as learning from my students as I teach them,” McCaslin said.
Thus far on Saipan, McCaslin has enjoyed pounding mochi at the Mochitsuki Festival, paddle boarding, hiking through the jungle, and playing Ultimate Frisbee. McCaslin also enjoys the island’s beaches and beautiful, welcoming people.
In future endeavors McCaslin hopes to continue teaching music, while continuing her studies in psychology. (PR)
