Saipan Pacific Winds and Manta Band team up for charity Christmas Concert
The award-winning Saipan Southern High School Manta Band in partnership with the Saipan Pacific Winds community concert band will be presenting a Christmas concert, marking its 21st consecutive year of brining musical cheer to the island.
The concert will be held at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center next Monday evening, Dec. 22 2014, starting at 7pm.
According to Saipan Southern High School band instructor and Pacific Winds founder William DeWitt, a portion of the proceeds will benefit The Salvation Army.
“We are just so excited and blessed to be able to do this event! I hope to see folks from all over our community come out,” he said. “This is a can’t-miss, one-night-only event.”
Although admission to the event is free, DeWitt sad that donations from the public will be gladly accepted and appreciated.
The Manta Band will be co-conducted by DeWitt and SSHS Manta Band president, Junseo Park.
In addition to their festival adjudicated repertoire, which the ensemble will debut next Monday night, audience members will be treated to heart-warming holiday favorites such as O Holy Night, Adeste Fidelis, Jingle Bells, Silent Night, and much more.
Band members have recently taken their talents to Carnegie Hall, the Sydney Opera House, London & Beijing Olympic Games, and the Tumon Bay Music Festival,
DeWitt urges members of the community to circle Dec. 22 on your calendar, promising a memorable night of music-making.
Forty of the musicians are also fund-raising for their festival tour to Los Angeles in June 2015 where they’ve been selected, as one of only five performing ensembles, from among hundreds of national and international applicants to perform at the iconic Walt Disney Hall. The band hopes to raise $130,000. To date, the band members have raised more than $20,000 for the competition.
