The 33rd Saipan International Fishing Tournament will be held this weekend.

Boat captains and their anglers will battle for the grand prize and six other categories. The grand prize will be awarded to the boat with the single heaviest catch (marlin), while the team to beat the record 942-lb marlin will bring home a whopping $10,000. Other categories to be contested are heaviest yellowfin and skipjack tuna, billfish, mahi, and wahoo, and the total weight.

Last year’s Padre De Familia’s 137.40-lb marlin took the grand prize, while Keilani Ko won the top honors in the total weight after hauling 128.97 lbs for two days.

In the other categories, the winners were Cabo Express (billfish), My Lady Gora (yellow fin), Marlin Chasers (wahoo), Sweet Candy (marlin), and Carmelita II (skipjack).

The Top 3 winners in each categories received replica trophies and other prizes from the sponsors of the Saipan Fishermen Association-organized tournament.

Registration for this weekend’s competition will be until this Friday at 5pm.
