Saipan gas prices up 15 cents
Mobil raised its pump prices late Tuesday night, while Shell followed suit late yesterday afternoon.
Regular unleaded gasoline at Shell and Mobil service stations is now $4.659 a gallon, up from $4.509 a gallon.
Super unleaded gasoline now costs $4.979 a gallon, from only $4.829 a gallon.
Diesel is now $5.069 a gallon, up 15 cents from $4.919 a gallon.
Motorists expressed disappointment that gas prices went up at a time when they thought the prices would continue to go down to less than $4.50 a gallon, at least on Saipan, as residents continue to reel from work hour cuts and high costs of utilities, consumer goods, and services.
The CNMI-especially Rota-still has the dubious distinction of having the highest gas prices on American soil.
Mobil earlier said that prices of gasoline are determined by a number of factors, including changes in the world market wholesale prices of gasoline, regional gasoline supply and demand balance, transportation costs, insurance, local distribution, marketing costs, government regulations, taxes, competitive market forces, and investments in retail stations and distribution terminals.
