Saipan-da will be on duty Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in Saipan.

As part of its promotions for the holiday season, the Marianas Visitors Authority will give away Saipan-da backpacks to visiting children arriving at Francisco C. Ada International Airport.

All passengers arriving on Dec. 24 and 25, 2014, will be greeted by Saipan-da and two Chamorritas in island attire. Children ages 11 and younger will receive backpacks of the character, which is well-known in Japan and loved by children from all Asian countries.

“Like Santa, Saipan-da will be busy at work on Christmas Eve, bringing smiles to children’s faces,” said MVA marketing manager Bruce Bateman. “He’ll continue his efforts throughout Christmas Day to spread holiday cheer.”

Saipan-da is a well-known, panda-like character, helping keep the destination name in front of potential visitors from Asian countries. (MVA)
