The Trench Challenge, Guam’s premier obstacle course race and qualifier for the OCR World Championships, has been added as a qualifier for the North American Obstacle Course Racing Championships that will be held in Stratton, Vermont from Aug. 10 to 12 this year.

All elite division athletes that qualified at Trench Challenges 2017 are eligible to register for the NorAm OCR Championships. Those that qualify in 2018 will be able to register for the 2018 World Championships and 2019 North American Championships.

“Although this news comes to us a bit late to prepare for, we’re definitely proud and excited to be added to the North American OCR Championships. Now, our athletes can choose between the NorAm and OCR World Championships,” said event director Tom Akigami.

The Trench Challenge 2018 is scheduled for Sept. 30 at the Guam International Raceway. Elite division competitors have a chance at qualifying for the 2018 OCR World Championships that will be held in London from Oct. 19-21

Trench Challenge is not only for the competitive athlete. The recreational division is a non-timed go at you pace, with non-mandatory obstacles that make it a great event for those that want to just have some fun, experience the challenge, and get muddy. The recreational division is family friendly that accommodates young adults from 12 years old to seniors as old as 70. Businesses have entered teams of up to 30 employees to strengthen their camaraderie and use as a team building exercise.

Last year, the CNMI’s James Lee joined the Trench Challenge and finished fifth in the 35 to 39 age group to qualify for the world championships in Canada. Lee is inviting fellow Saipan athletes to participate in the Trench Challenge or contact him if they are interested in forming a team.
