Saipan Apparel kept its spot at the top half of the team standings after beating the Junior Ol’Aces, 84-68, in the first game in the Mariana Islands Basketball Federation’s Inaugural Men’s Outdoor League last Friday at the San Antonio court.

Saipan Apparel now holds a 4-3 record for a share of third place with GMI Market and behind Duenas Compound (5-1), Ace Hardware (5-1), and the Ol’Aces (5-2) in the 11-team field. The Junior Ol’Aces fell to an even 3-3 card to land at sixth spot.

Jerome Norita, Derrick Rangamar, Kelvin Fitial, and Syl Teregeyo got the job done for Saipan Apparel as all four scored in double figures. Norita finished with a game-high 23 points, Rangamar chipped in 15, and Fitial and Teregeyo added 11 apiece. Ed and Jerry Diaz and Pete Lizama combined for 18 more points in Saipan Apparel’s balance offense.

Norita caught fire early, making 9 points in the first quarter, which ended with Saipan Apparel in front, 24-19. Norita went scoreless in the second period, but Ed Diaz, Syl Teregeyo, and Rangamar were there to fill the void and help Saipan Apparel keep the driver’s seat at the break, 44-38.

Saipan Apparel’s top scorer then regained his shooting form in the third quarter to bring their lead to twin digits, 66-56, while Fitial finished things for the team in the fourth canto. Norita added 7 points in the third frame, while Fitial nailed all his baskets in the final canto en route to their 16-point winning margin.
