An official of the Saipan Agricultural Fair Association is confident that Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios, who is acting in Gov. Ralph DLG Torres’ stead, will enact a bill that allocates $23,000 to SAFA, just in time for this Saturday’s agricultural fair.

The 36th Annual Agricultural Fair will be held on July 27, from 7am to 2pm, at the Garapan Central Park Roundhouse.

SAFA officer Jack Ogomurro is grateful to the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation for passing House Bill 21-44 at their last session and is confident that Palacios will signs the bill on time as it heads to the Office of the Governor.

H.B. 21-44 appropriates $1.96 million in poker fees and part of that is the $23,000 that will be used for the Agricultural Fair.

SAFA president Dr. Ignacio Dela Cruz also gave thanks to the delegation for providing the funds.

Similarly, Lands and Natural Resources Secretary Anthony Benavente also thanked the delegation for the money. “With that funding, it will help us [improve] this [year’s] Agricultural Fair,” he said. That includes bigger prizes for the winners of the fair’s various competitions and ensuring that they can continue the fair next year.

“This could not be possible without the Legislature’s help,” he added.

The SNILD is made up of a combination of Saipan senators and House representatives. The bill also appropriated $7,000 to the Saipan Fishing Association for the 35th Fishing Derby last Saturday.

The Agricultural Fair was held at the Civic Center last year, but due to damage caused by Super Typhoon Yutu, SAFA chose to hold it at the Roundhouse this year, with the theme “Agri-resiliency.”
