Sablan urges qualified families: Apply now to get advance child tax credit payments
Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan (Ind-MP) is urging families with children ages 17 and younger to apply now to receive the advance payment on their 2021 child tax credit.
In his e-kilili newsletter over the weekend, Sablan asked Marianas families to apply now through the Commonwealth’s advance child tax credit online application portal. He said the application requires family members’ names, Social Security numbers, each qualifying child’s date of birth, and the adjusted gross income from the family’s most recent income tax return.
Anyone who cannot reach the online portal may instead download the AdvCTC form available at the Department of Finance Forms Central and submit it directly to the CNMI’s Department of Finance, Division of Revenue and Taxation.
Sablan earlier announced that the increased child tax credit included by U.S. Congress in the American Rescue Plan Ac in March has now been approved for distribution.
The ARPA, which was passed in the U.S. House of Representatives last March 10, contains the largest child tax credit ever for families. The credit goes from $2,000 per child to $3,000 per child for children from age 6 through 17. For children under age 6, the credit is raised from $2,000 to $3,600. Any family with two working parents and an income below $150,000 is eligible for the full credit. Single working parents earning up to $112,000 are also eligible for the full credit.
Last Friday, Finance launched the advance child tax credit update portal. Finance said advance child tax credit payments will begin August through December 2021.
