Sablan tops SGA January Ace

Nick Sablan topped the Saipan Golf Association Ace of the Month Tournament held last Feb. 2 at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort west course.
The former national golfer, who has a low four handicap, shot a net score of 71 after firing a 75 gross built around a 36 in the front and a 39 in a back.

Ed Manibusan finished second with his 72 net. The former Superior Court presiding judge had a gross of 77 (39-38) that included three birdies.

Manny Alvarez completed the Top 3 with his 74 net after he carded an 82 gross (40-42), including a birdie. He actually finished tied with Edward C. Sablan but took third place through a scorecard tiebreak.

In the closest to the pin competition, Alvarez took hole No. 3, James Nelson was without peer in hole No. 7, Edward C. Sablan beat everyone in hole No. 13, and Juan “Pan” Guerrero won hole No. 17.

In the longest drives, Steve Balakrishna and Greg Sablan Jr. out-distanced everyone in holes No. 5 and 12, respectively.

A total of 17 SGA took part in the January Ace, which had its awards banquet and election of officers the following afternoon at Amigo’s Pizza in Garapan.

Veteran golfer Jung Eun Teack was reelected as president of SGA and joining him in the 2014 roster of officers are vice president Greg Sablan, Jr., treasurer Edward Sablan, secretary Frances Sablan, tournament director Nick Sablan, handicap coordinator Ed Manibusan, and solicitation committee chair Steve Balakrishna.(Saipan Tribune)
