Sablan-Fleming statement on passing of Herb Soll
Democratic gubernatorial candidates Rep. Christina “Tina” Sablan and Rep. Leila Fleming Staffler issued the following joint statement on the passing of former CNMI Superior Court judge Herb Soll:
We join the people of the Marianas in mourning the loss of a truly great man: Herb Soll, who meant so much to so many.
Herb was a giant in the legal community, and a trusted and beloved mentor to numerous attorneys. He was instrumental in the establishment of our court system, and served the people of the Marianas as judge, public defender, hearing officer, and attorney general.
Herb was an advocate for human rights, and a champion of good governance; a true-blue Democrat, and a statesman. He was a long-time member of the NMI Democratic Party’s executive committee, and a rock star representing the Marianas at the Democratic National Convention.
Herb was a compassionate soul, a terrific listener, a collector of beautiful art, a tremendous intellect, a family man, and a dear friend to all who were blessed to know him. He cared deeply about the people of the Marianas and our island cultures, and believed it was important to ensure that we pass on our traditions to future generations.
Herb loved the Marianas, and the Marianas loved him. We will miss him greatly.
We offer our heartfelt sympathies to Herb’s family, and especially his wife Elena, their children, and grandchildren. May Herb rest in peace. (PR)
