Runnin’ Rebels, Run N’ Gun pound foes

The Runnin’ Rebels and Run N’ Gun romped past their respective opponents in the 2016 Island-wide Men’s Basketball League last Tuesday night at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
The Runnin’ Rebels whipped CES Electronics in the first game, 88-59, while Run N’ Gun scored a similar easy win against Best Sunshine International in the second match, 116-63.
The victory was the Runnin’ Rebels fourth in five games, putting them in second place in the team standings behind the unbeaten Ol’Aces (4-0). The Ballers, who came from a 82-75 victory versus the Risers last Saturday, are in third place with their 3-1 slate, followed by 670 Sonics (2-2), Risers (2-2), NMI Rollers (2-2), CES Electronics (2-3), Run N’ Gun (1-4), and BSI (0-5).
Jerald Castillo helped Run N’ Gun break into the win column after firing 21 points, 15 of them came from downtown. Greg Sablan and Kevin Jack backed Castillo up, combining for 30 points.
Run N’ Gun peppered BSI with triples, hitting nine from beyond the arc against the latter’s none. Bon Fabian had 16 points in BSI’s losing cause.
In the Runnin’ Rebels-CES tiff, the former also outgunned their foes from downtown, 9-2, to set up the 29-point winning margin.
Jason Palacios led the Runnin’ Rebels’ hot shooting, knocking in five triples and posting 17 points. Don Teregeyo and Shane Deleon Guerrero also finished in twin digits for the Runnin’ Rebels, contribung 13 and 12, respectively.
Jerome Norita paced CES with his 17 points.
Meanwhile, in last Saturday’s second game, Kenneth Viray recorded a game-high 26 points to lift the Ballers to the 7-point win.
Viray also scored successive points in the homestretch to hand the Ballers their third win. He tallied the Ballers’ last 5 markers and had 11 in the final canto.
In the other match last Saturday, Elmer Esdrelon drained two important triples in the fourth period and added three charities to help Blue Haus pull off a come-from-behind 89-80 win against the Sonics.
Esdrelon’s two treys were Blue Haus’ last two field goals and the team sealed the win by making five free throws in the closing minutes. Junar Guiab hit the two other shots from the stripe for Blue Haus, which faced a 37-44 halftime deficit before mounting a comeback in the second half.
