Run Saipan’s Grotto 10K ‘23 this Saturday

Run Saipan’s very own 10K race—the 2nd Annual Grotto 10K ’23—is set for tomorrow, Saturday, June 11 at 6am.
The check in time is between 5am to 5:45am, with a race brief at 5:450am.
The course is from the Grotto in an out and back semi-flat course. Water stations will be provided at the start point, Bird Island Lookout, and the turn around point, just past the Kalabera Cave.
Age divisions from the open to 65 and older will be awarded this year.
Run Saipan president Edward Dela Cruz Jr. said this time around for their participant shirts, they wanted to do something different.
“It’s a longer distance so we wanted to do a long sleeve but not a regular vanilla style. Since we know people like to swim we designed a dry fit long sleeve hoodie for casual beach attire as well as swimming. It could be used for running. I’ve used it but probably not anything longer than an hour’s duration.”
About the race, he said “The Grotto 10K will be better this year. Last year we didn’t have enough medals to do age divisions awards so this year we brought in enough to pull the age division bracket as well as [an] online timing system. Special shout out to IT&E for helping us get their wireless service down up in the north for this event. This will start our six-month countdown to our half marathon in December again with Atkins Kroll.”
Last year, the winner of the women’s division and overall was Dr. Lily Muldoon, who clocked in at 44:57; and the winner of the men’s division was Sildrey Veloria with a time of 45:05.
