The show must go on after the storm has passed and so the race shall too as the Run Saipan Mangrove 5K ‘23 is still set for tomorrow, May27, at 6am.
The course is along the scenic route of American Memorial Park to the Marina, then the Gov. Eloy Inos Peace Park and back—strictly within the park pathway.
Run Saipan president Edward Dela Cruz Jr. said “The 5K is still a go. We are still coordinating with IT&E and One Time for the timing system to be ready for this weekend.”
On the course viability after the storm, he said “The course will be good for this weekend. My team and I will be going out tomorrow to the park to see what we need to do. I have four other contingent race routes around the park if need be. I always have contingencies.”
He added, “The race must go! Our schedule is very tight in June with having the Grotto 10K, Oceania Cup, and the Oceania Masters Champs going on. The mangrove 5K is one of our original Run Saipan races, we will not cancel or postpone it regardless if there is a low turnout this weekend.”
The race fee is $5 for Run Saipan members and $10 for non-members.
