With the recent spike in COVID-19 community transmission, Run Saipan has erred on the side of caution and postponed last Saturday’s Run Saipan Dash & Splash to Nov. 13.
“Safety is always the No. 1 priority for us. We are supporting the governor for his mandatory 10-day order of school closure. We have a lot of students that signed up for the race and it would not be fair to deny them entry. We just want the community to be safe. I would like to thank the participants for understanding our decision and their patience to hold off until Nov. 13,” said Run Saipan president Edward Dela Cruz Jr.
To replace last Saturday’s Run Saipan Dash & Splash, the non-profit running organization is offering instead a virtual 5K this weekend.
“The good news is the event is now turned into a virtual race weekend for October’s underground series so we will be eager to see who takes advantage of it. We still have a 5K race to fill in for October and are pleased to announce it’s become a virtual 5K weekend for runners!” said Dela Cruz.
The October underground virtual 5K was from Friday, Oct. 28, to today, Nov. 1. Dela Cruz said the timeline is based off of CHST time zone. Participating runners must use the GPS in their watches or smart phones to track their run. After running the 5K, runners must then submit a screen shot of their run results, name, and age to runsaipan@gmail.com.
“You can also submit a picture of yourself (especially those of you’re not on island). This race is open to everyone worldwide,” added Dela Cruz.
Run Saipan’s 5K Dash & Splash was supposed to be held last Saturday at the East Bay of Lao Lao Bay and it had a water element where runners can opt to take a dip in the water, hence the splash in the run’s name.
