Roundabout, traffic lights planned in Garapan
Building a roundabout and putting up several traffic lights are among plans that will hopefully ease the traffic congestion in Garapan.
Gov. Ralph DLG Torres said his administration had been conducting studies to find viable solutions for the worsening traffic.
“Lately we’ve been taking traffic counting in the area. Studying the amount of vehicle traffic coming from north and south.”
A traffic count takes note of pedestrian and vehicular traffic in an area. It is usually conducted in a specific road or intersection. Foot and vehicle traffic in Garapan, especially during rush hours, has worsened in the past few months.
Torres said that turning the Garapan-Beach Road area into a one-way street is also part of the plan, which is now being followed in the inner streets going from Imperial Pacific Resort’s construction to Paseo de Marianas.
“There’s also a proposal to have traffic lights in front of the four-corners near Cha and [Garapan Elementary School]. We’re going to keep some of the one-way streets, like the one coming out from Godfather’s,” said Torres, who added the roundabout is planned to be constructed in the intersection along Beach Road and Micro Beach Road.
Torres added they are also waiting for the bus that will be used for public transportation, which is expected to arrive within two months. The bus is also accessible to persons with disabilities.
