Rota Sinapalo Elementary School’s Lovely Jingco and Tinian Elementary School’s Clarence Rodriguez won this year’s Christmas in the Marianas art contest.

For Sinapalo, second place winner is James Atalig and third place winner is Bernie Lynn H. Poll. For Tinian Elementary, second place winner is Jerimiah Hofschneider and third place winner is Cielo Long.

Although the schools from Rota and Tinian were not present this year for the event, Paseo de Marianas Promoters, Inc. decided to get the children from Tinian and Rota involved through an art contest.

PDM coordinator Sonia Siwa said that the judges had already finished the tabulation and posted the winners at the PDM area.

“The theme of the drawing contest was ‘My Holiday Greetings to our Visitors’ participants are all elementary students from Tinian and Rota. The criteria is for its attractiveness and colorfulness and should be island tradition themed,” Siwa said.

This is the 8th year that the schools had joined the Christmas in the Marianas.

“We don’t want these children to be left out of our celebration since this event is for the children of the CNMI so they are part of it,” Siwa said.

Prizes will be given as well to the students. First place will receive $50, second is $30, and third is $20. All those who entered the competition will receive school kit gift each.

This year, Rota submitted 96 entries and Tinian submitted 97 entries.

Siwa said that they will announce the winners again on Dec. 27, 2014.
