The Rotary Club of Saipan will be distributing Pandemic Relief Care Packages on Tinian tomorrow, July 11, 2020, at 9am, in collaboration with the Tinian International Women’s Association.

The club said in a statement yesterday that it is spearheading this food distribution project to families affected by the pandemic due to loss of employment.  “We will be distributing relief goods to over 180 families on Tinian,” the statement adds.

The Rotary Club said this is a continuation of the Rotary Club’s relief goods distribution this past May to hundreds of similarly affected families on Saipan and Rota, both in collaboration with the Karidat Social Services.

“Everyone in our community is affected by the pandemic and our club cares deeply about the welfare of those most vulnerable or are in need of a helping hand. We know that every little bit will help our community and this is why we continue to do what we can,” the club statement said.

The Tinian distribution will be carried out by 15 Rotary members from Saipan, who mostly will be travelling on three boats captained by Rotary members.  The bags of care packages were transported to Tinian by air on Thursday, compliments of Micronesian Air Cargo Services. “This endeavor also could not have been possible without the support and contributions from our valued donors. …We are all very excited and looking forward to this,” the club said. Its many donors include Micronesian Air Cargo Services Saipan, Tandem Skydive Saipan, D&Q Distributors, Saipan Micronesian Brokers Inc., Payless Super Fresh and Truckload Store, Karidat Social Services, and Western Sales Trading Co., as well as several individual donors.

This year’s Rotary International Theme is “Rotary Opens Opportunities” and it is through this endeavor “that we were able to work collaboratively with the Tinian International Women’s Association.  We started planning this project a couple weeks ago and [club] president Sonya [Dancoe] is thrilled with all the coordination they have done on Tinian to ensure everything goes smoothly. This is the beginning of many new opportunities to build new friendships, to network and to collaborate on future projects with other organizations,” the club said.

Rotaract Saipan’s resident Genelin Camacho and her team are also involved in this project. “The time Dancoe have spent with her is something she envisioned doing during her term and well into the future—to mentor the professional development of young future Rotarians, and to build lasting experiences together,” the club statement added (PR)
