Rotary eyes ‘Rock to Read’ this April
The Rotary Club of Saipan will be hosting its annual “Rock to Read” this April 8, 2017, at 2pm and at the Pedro P. Multi-Purpose center, Susupe.
Rock to Read is a competition sponsored by the Rotary Club of Saipan. Students are encouraged to select a section of their favorite book and re-enact it on stage. Its purpose is to help middle school and high school students showcase their acting talents while encouraging them to read.
The Rotary club of Saipan is inviting students to enter the competition in teams. The teams must choose a book to perform that is at sixth grade level or higher. The students must interpret the book they chose through dancing or singing.
Prizes will be given out to the top five. The first placer will get $1,000. Second placer gets $750. Third placer gets $500. Those who get fourth place will receive $300, while those who land on fifth place will get $200.
The teams that don’t place in the top five will till get consolation prizes of $100 each.
The Rotary Club board of directors must approve the books that each group chooses before the day of the competition. The deadline to register for this competition is on March 31, 2017. Teams can email their book choice to saipanrotary@gmail.com for approval. (Kimberly A. Bautista)
