Rotary to donate to LV shooting victims

A portion of the proceeds from the Saipan Rotary Club’s upcoming “Las Vegas Night” will be donated the victims of the Las Vega shooting tragedy.

Past Rotary president Ivan Ilmov raised the idea of donating a portion of the proceeds of “Las Vegas Night” at the weekly Rotary meeting at the Hyatt Regency Saipan’s Giovanni Restaurant yesterday.

According to Rotary president Thomas Thornburgh, the club has a fellow Rotarian who’s been affected by the tragedy—a fellow member with ties to a victim of the shooting.

Since the tragedy has been called the Las Vegas shooting and since the Rotary fundraiser is called Las Vegas Night, the club saw it fit to allocate funds from Las Vegas Night to be appropriated to helping those who are still fighting for their lives in the aftermath of the tragedy, Thornburgh said.

According to Thornburgh, he fully supports the plan to donate some of the funds from the event to the victims because it was truly a tragedy for those affected.

The Rotary Club of Saipan will be hosting its annual Las Vegas Night on Nov. 18.
