The Rotary Club of Saipan welcomed a visiting member from Brazil yesterday during the club’s regular Tuesday meeting at the Hyatt Regency Saipan’s Giovanni’s Restaurant.
Tony Hu, a member of the Rotary Club de Brasilia International, is a native of Taiwan and currently lives there. He visits Brazil every three to four months. He is a recent member of the Brazilian Rotary Club; he joined about a month and a half ago. However, his wife is a longtime member of the club.
Hu also coordinated with several projects back in Brazil. One important project is the planting of 15,000 trees in areas that experience heavy droughts.
“An important ongoing project is our humanitarian services to the refugees coming in from Venezuela. …We try to provide as much aid as we can,” he said.
Hu is also visiting Saipan for the Veterans Foreign Wars Pacific Regional Convention at the Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan.
“It’s always a pleasure to have visiting Rotarians come and join us at our meetings,” said Rotary Club of Saipan’s president Greg Borja. “It is great to have…Tony…share all the projects that they are doing in Brazil.
He said what other Rotary clubs are doing provide inspiration “[on] what we can do to advance our community in terms of humanitarian services.”
