Rotary asks help from construction sector to repair bus stops
Rotary Club of Saipan vice president Brian Clayton said Tuesday that they would ask the help of their members in the construction business to complete the repair, improvement, and construction of bus stops in several areas on island.
Rotarians, during their weekly meeting held yesterday at the Hyatt Regency Saipan’s Giovanni’s restaurant, identified the bus stops in Kagman, Koblerville, and one in Middle Road near Conwood in Chalan Laulau.
Clayton, who presided the meeting, said that the bus stops in Kagman are only made of wood and have tin roofs. Typhoon Soudelor destroyed most of the bus stops in Kagman.
“These bus stops are not made of concrete. We’re hoping our Rotarians in the construction business could help us in constructing concrete bus stops for the kids,” he said.
Clayton added that aside from the construction of concrete bus stops Rotary would also do the painting like the ones in Koblerville and in Middle Road near Conwood.
He also asked Rotary members to help identify other bus stops that need to be improved, which is part of their continuing service to the community.
One of the bus stops in Kagman will also be a part of the Kagman Family Park project that the Rotary is hoping to finish by the end of the year.
Rotary Saipan has applied for a Community Development Block Grant from the Northern Marianas Housing Corp., which would release an invitation to bid for the Kagman Family Park project. Building designs and scope of work have already been submitted to NMHC.
Clayton said that once the request for bid is out it would take close to two months to review all the bids. Another six to eight months would be needed for the construction of the Kagman Family Park.
Turning the basketball court to a full-size court with new bleachers and community playground are some of the plans for the Kagman Family Park.
Clayton said that once the basketball court is finished, they would invite league organizers that hold games at San Antonio and TSL Sports Complex to also try and have their matches at the new facility.
