To celebrate Halloween and run for a good cause, the Rotaract Club of Saipan along with Run Saipan is hosting its first ever Halloween 5K Fun Run and Halloween Costume contest this Saturday, Oct. 29, from the Garapan Fishing Base.
Registration opens at 5am and the race starts at 7am. The route starts at the Garapan Fishing Base until Quartermaster Road and back.
The registration fee is $10 and proceeds will go to the Rotaract Club of Saipan’s community service projects and a portion will go to Rotary International’s Polio Plus.
Rotaract Club of Saipan president Richard Baleares said “we’ve always wanted to do a 5K fun run and to finally do it while celebrating the spooky season of Halloween and joining Rotary International’s fight against polio makes this special to the club.”
He invited people to come out and said “to everyone in the community! Please take part in the spooky season of Halloween and join the Rotaract Club of Saipan’s 5K Fun Run and costume contest this Saturday at the Garapan Fishing Base! All runners will be entered into a raffle, which means everyone has a chance to win a prize! In addition, the top male and female runners will receive medals!”
“On top of that, we’ll be having a costume contest for scariest, most creative, and funniest costumes, with all participants eligible having completed the 5K course. For the kids, candies will be distributed at the turnaround and at the finish line,” said Baleares.
He then thanked Run Saipan president Edward Dela Cruz Jr. and the members of the running club for the assistance in making this event possible, and special shoutout to Rotaract alumni Ricky Castro for bringing up the idea of a Rotaract 5K Fun Run back in 2021.

For his part, Dela Cruz said they’re supporting the Rotaract Club because their organization aligns with their mission goals and objectives.
“Members of our running club are also members of Rotaract and we love them so much. Rotaract is also one of the heaviest suppliers of volunteers for our organization since we started our runs. What better way than partnering with them for their inaugural event. Richard is doing [a] fantastic job with the new generation of Rotarians,” he said.
