Rotaract Club of Saipan has started their monthly community outreach campaign with beach cleanups at major use areas.

A total of 10 active Rotaract members began their cleanup this past Sunday from Susupe Beach Park toward the beach area behind Aquarius Beach Tower.

The cleanup began at 7am and concluded at 9:30am, collecting 702 lbs of garbage scattered throughout the park, beach, and surrounding areas.

According to Rotaract vice president Del Mendiola, “This cleanup is just a starting point for Rotaract Club of Saipan and we feel that it is a service project in need of continuity. We are also reaching out to public schools for another project. Although we are a new club, our mission is still in line with Rotary International philosophy. We will be doing fundraising campaigns in the coming months but as of now, if the community is in need, we can provide manpower.”

An upcoming project is tied to helping public school elementary students increase not only their literacy but their leadership, advocacy and character building skills.

“I feel that the sense of giving back to the community starts at a very young age and can grow stronger or falter depending on the guidance these kids receive,” Mendiola said.

The Rotaract Club of Saipan is part of an international organization that focuses on humanitarian and education initiatives throughout the world to enhance or improve relations between countries and people.

The Rotaract Club of Saipan is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Saipan and membership is made up of young professionals such as business and community leaders between the ages of 18 and 30.

Meetings are hosted at noon every other Saturday at various local businesses. This upcoming Saturday, Aug. 30, at Naked Fish Bar & Grill will mark the sixth membership meeting since the club’s membership installation in July. The club is still recruiting like-minded individuals with dedication and determination to service above self so if you are interested in joining the Rotaract Club of Saipan, email the club at rotaractofsaipan@gmail.com or check out their website at www.rotaractofsaipan.wix.com/rotaract-of-saipan.
