Rota public library officially opens
The Antonio C. Atalig Memorial Public Library, also known as Rota Public Library, was officially opened to the public on June 29, 2012.
The occasion was witnessed by a cross-section of Rota, including children, youth, and man’amko and was particularly graced by the presence of Anita Cruz Manglona-Atalig, the surviving spouse of the late Antonio Camacho Atalig, and their three daughters out of 16 children, including Rita A. Manglona, Annette A. Calvo, and Rosita A. Mendiola.
Joeten-Kiyu Public Library executive director John Oliver Gonzales said, “Now we can finally say that all our three principally inhabited islands have their own public library, completing our NMI State Public Library System.”
Other dignitaries who attended included Mayor and Mrs. Melchor A. Mendiola, Rep. Teresita Santos, Board of Education vice chair and Rota member Tanya King, Dr. Rita H. Inos Jr./Sr. High School principal Sharlene T. Manglona, who represented PSS Commissioner Rita A. Sablan, Rota Municipal Council Secretary Prudencio A. Manglona, CNMI Library Council chair Herminia M. Fusco, vice chair Mark O. Rabauliman, and Policy Committee chair Anna C. Baer. (PR)
