Rota official pleads not guilty to importing contraband

A Rota official has pleaded not guilty to the charge that she imported undeclared household goods to Rota last year.

Rota Mayor’s Office’s special assistant for programs and grants Aubry Hocog, through counsel Joaquin DLG Torres, pleaded not guilty to the information charging her with one count of importation of contraband.

The arraignment was held before Presiding Roberto C. Naraja at the Rota Superior Court last Friday, Sept. 27. Chief prosecutor John Bradley appeared for the government. Naraja issued the minutes of the hearing Thursday last week.

Naraja set a status conference for Oct. 25, 2019, at 9am at the Rota Superior Court.

Hocog was not arrested as she was only summoned to appear in court to answer the charge.

According to the information filed by assistant attorney general Frances T. Demapan, on June 17, 2018 on Rota, Hocog brought into Rota some household goods without declaring them. despite the total sum of the items being subject to excise tax.

Demapan said the items included seven doors, one refrigerator, one washer, one dryer, 20 tiles, one bunk bed, and four paint buckets.
