Rollers Basketball Association received a large donation of 20 basketballs from Rep. Celina Babauta (D-Saipan) and former CNMI representative Franklin Babauta.

According to RBA head coach Joe Diaz, two weeks ago, Celina and Franklin Babauta gave the association a donation of 30 Molten basketballs, 15 size 6 Molten balls which are typically women’s basketballs, 15 size 7 men’s basketballs, and two sets of cones.

When asked about how the donation would benefit the club, Diaz said it gives the children resources to hone their skills.

“Part of basketball is we need balls because what do you do on the court, you don’t just run, you have to learn to dribble. We aim to activate these skills, and help these kids progress at a young age,” he said.

Diaz said although the entire RBA will benefit from the donation, it will be more beneficial to those children in the younger age groups of RBA.

“In our youth development, or our young age group, we have 14U, 12U, and 10U and this donation would really help them with their skill levels. And as we continue on, every month, we have a lot of children coming in to join our club, ranging from 10U to 14U, they really need these basketballs,” he said.
