Rollers, Rascals clinch titles in RBC basketball tournament

(Walter Sutherland)  The Little Rollers and Rascals were crowned champions in the Rollers Basketball Club’s Mini-Rascal Tournament after last Thursday title games at the Garapan Basketball Court.

The Little Rollers defeated the Little Rebels, 38-20, in the U10 finals, while the Rascals pounced the R-Rebels in the U12 championship match, 36-14.

Playing for the Little Rollers are Dance Chua, Carl Esdrelon, TJ Factor, Ian Kwon, Fei-Fei Lei, Meko Quiambo, Taiga Sato, Peter Shan, Wendy Tan, and Keoni Yarofalir. Joe Diaz coached the championship squad.

The Rascal’ champion roster includes Taka Borja, Ylae Caracut, Emmanuel Cubocha, Chioni Dela Cruz, Dexter Guharra, Jiang Han, Khristian Itaas, Mat Mamaril and DJ Olopai with Paul Camacho handling the squad.

In the U10 finale, the Little Rebels held a slim 12-10 advantage, thanks to the six early points of TJ Factor. Factor finished with 18 points in the match, while Taka Borja scrambled for eight on the short end.

The Rebels advanced to the U10 title match after a 46-43 victory over the Young Guns last Tuesday.

In the U12 title match, the halftime scores were not recorded, however the sheet showed Rascals’ Khristian Itaas having a breakout performances with his 16 points. He received 10 markers in support from Ylae Caracut, while R-Rebels’ Angelo Factor and Kyle Ottoa came out the only contributors to their team’s offense.

Organizers will select most valuable players of each team and award all the winners prize packages after the U14 championship game this Thursday.

Little Rebels 20

Rascals 36 – Itaas 16, Caracut 10, Cubocha 6, Dela Cruz 2, Mamaril 2.
