Rollers basketball program head Joe Diaz said he and 18 adults, most of which are parents of the players, will be accompanying the three teams in the 10th edition of the annual Academy of Computer Arts and Sciences (ACAS) Education and Basketball Center-organized tournament.
The Rollers will be competing for the sixth straight year and this time will join in the Under-14 advanced division, and the U16 and U18 competitive age categories.
Diaz said that he is hoping the three teams would match or even surpass the second place finishes of the Rollers squads that competed last year.
The Rollers placed second to the Inarajan Heat in the U14 recreation and competitive age groups and duplicated that feat in U21 recreation coed division when it finished runner-up to the MTM Falcons.
Diaz said that the Rollers and the parents will be having a meeting on Saturday at the Garapan basketball court in order to organize a fundraising event for the November tournament. The time will be announced before Saturday’s event.
The longtime Rollers mentor added that he has yet to finalize the rosters of the three teams.
The other age divisions are U8, U10 and U12 coed, and the U14 competitive and co-ed recreation categories.
The tournament, which will have a double elimination format, is open to all organized clubs and village teams.
The deadline for team registration is on Oct. 31 at 5 to 8 p.m. at the Tamuning Gym and the final day of submission of all team rosters is on Nov. 7. The entrance fee is $250 per team payable in cash or check to ACAS. (Jon Perez)
