Rollers 1 and Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan kept their perfect records in the 2016 TanHoldings Christmas Basketball Tournament after downing separate foes last Wednesday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.
In the U25 division, Rollers 1 pounded Rollers 2, 100-50, for its third win in as many games. Fiesta earned the same 3-0 record following a 55-19 rout of Armatech in the women’s division pairing.
Fiesta eased past Armatech (1-3) after playing a balance offense. Maron Diaz, Krizel Tuazon, Paulyn Joyce, and Charmaine Francisco posted 8 points apiece for Fiesta, which pulled away early taking a 22-6 halftime edge. The four other scorers for Fiesta had at least 4 points each.
Rollers 1 also spread the wealth in its demolition of Rollers 2. Four Rollers 1 players hit double figures as the division leader reached the century mark. June Alipio fired 28 points, Aaron Ogumoro recorded 26, and Angelo Factor and Dalton Dancoe chipped in 14 and 10, respectively.
With Rollers 1’s gunners on target, they led from the get-go and were never threatened to move two wins away from sweeping the elimination round.
Sam Darag registered 16 points in a losing effort for Rollers 2, which fell to an even 2-2 record.
Rollers 2 earlier gained its second win after stunning Vibes in last Monday’s final game, 49-38.
Prince Factor, Jun Fidelino, and Warren Ellama teamed up in lifting Rollers 2 to victory after combining for 32 points. Factor had 12 markers, while Fidelino and Ellama contributed 11 and 9, respectively.
Vibes, which fell to a 1-2 slate, drew 12 points from Michael Mancao. The team played without Matt Duenas and Douglas Schmidt.
In other results, MHS improved to a 3-2 record after outclassing the Ol’Aces 1, 46-39, in their U16 division match.
Jediael Manalo led MHS with his 15 points, while Duncan Laxa had 17 for the Ol’Aces 1, which was still winless after three games.
