CNMI national golfer Rose Rohringer won the CNMI Women’s Golf Association March competition last Saturday at the Kingfisher Golf Links in Talafofo.

The 37-year-old shot a net 78 after firing a gross score of 88. The 10-handicapper registered a 45 in the front nine and a 43 in the back nine.

Asked what was working for her last March 12, the native of Pangasinan in the Philippines said it was most definitely her putting.

“I made some nice putts to save me some pars. Weather was nice until the last few holes when rain started to pour. The greens weren’t in good shape either,” she said.

Rohringer, who started playing the sport 10 years ago and is self-taught, said she’s dedicating her March championship to Scott Dottino’s mom who just recently passed away.

Last October, Rohringer was named to the CNMI National Golf Team for the Northern Marianas Pacific Mini Games 2022.

Yoko Togawa came in second with her net 79 built around a gross of 84. The 5-handicapper had splits of 40-44. Third place went to Kyunga Park on the strength of her 79 (gross 94, 43-51). Togawa edged Park in a scorecard tiebreak.

A total of 11 CWGA members took part in the March tournament and these are the players and net scores in parenthesis: Terry Guerrero (79), Sherlyn Jones (81), Lorrain Babauta (82), Sae Hee Kim (83), Yi Su Jeang (85), Sunny Son Hun (86), Lou Kim (86), and Nirimai Kobel (88).

The club continues to look for new members as the new season continues. For those interested in becoming a member of CWGA or for more information, contact CWGA president Yuko Togawa at 287-9856, vice president Lorraine Babauta at 287-0621, or treasurer Lou Kim at 783-7317.
