A pair of homers from IT&E Fielders’ Ian Rogolifoi and a go-ahead grand slam from the Docomo Pacific Ol’Aces’ Keoni Lizama highlighted last week’s Saipan Little League Baseball, Inc. action at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.

Rogolifoi’s homer lifted his Fielders past Saipan Shipping Company’s Jets I in the Senior League game, 8-6, while in the Big League, Lizama’s blast helped the Ol’Aces overcome the Paradise Island Animal Hospital Hustlers, 8-6, despite a pair of homers by Hustlers’ Brian Camacho and Kevin Villagomez.

In other Big League results, the IT&E Fielders handled the St. Michael’s Medical Response Hunters, 8-4, on Thursday, while in the Senior League, the Docomo Ol’Aces defeated the Rep.Antonio Sablan-Eliceo D. Cabrera Hunters, 16-9.

The Jets I chomped at the bit and reclaimed the lead, 6-5, with three hits, two walks, and an error in the bottom of the fourth; Matt Maeda bagged an RBI single and AJ Cabrera had an RBI double.

The Fielders tapped Jared Lizama in relief for Keoni Kaipat to close the fourth and the former cooled the Jets for the remainder of the contest despite a rocky start with inherited runners on the path.

The Fielder left the bases loaded in the fifth, but took the lead, 7-6, in the sixth inning off a Rogolifoi two-run homer that almost hit the foul pole in right field.

Rogolifoi swung 3-for-4, while winning pitcher Kaipat gave up two earned runs off one hit, six walks, and three hit batsmen with three strikeouts in three and two-thirds innings.

The Hunters answered with three runs in the bottom frame with a sacrifice fly and a two-RBI double by Jerome Reyes, but the Ol’Aces fired back in the top of the fifth with four runs off three hits and some more costly errors. The Ol’Aces’ Jun Rabauliman cracked a two-RBI double.

This time the Hunters only answered with one run and the Ol’Aces one-upped the Hunters once again, four runs to three, in the last inning to secure the win.

The Ol’Aces’ Lizama batted 5-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs

Fielders 8, Hunters 4

The Fielders went ahead, 2-1, in the first inning off an RBI triple by RJ Villagomez, who was driven home by Peter Lieto.

The Fielders added two more runs in the fourth from a two-run inside the park homer by RJ Villagomez and held the Hunters to three runs in the last two innings.

The Ol’Aces managed to lock it at 3-all in the top of the fifth inning off errors and jumped in front, 8-3, in the sixth from a clutch grand slam by Keoni Lizama; an extra run came from a walk with the bases still loaded.

The Hustlers’ Villagomez hammered an in the park home run with two runners on base in effort to ignite a late rally, but the Ol’Aces’ Harry Nakamura held strong on the mound to secure his win.

Nakamura went the distance and gave up five earned runs off six hits and a walk with eight strikeouts.
