The SLLBI will be holding its general membership meeting on Oct. 4 and will also elect its board members in time for the 2015-2016 season, which is set to start in January next year.
Rogolifoi, the former Sports and Recreation Director when they were still under the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, said he won’t be back in time for the group’s general membership meeting, but has advised the board to push through with next week’s proceedings.
“I don’t think I’ll be back in time for the election. [So] I’ve advised Annie Flores to contact our vice president Joey Dela Cruz to conduct the meeting,” Rogolifoi said in an email to the Saipan Tribune.
Flores is the SLLBI’s longtime secretary.
“I would recommend [Dela Cruz] or any of the sitting board members to run the [Saipan Little League Baseball] program,” said Rogolifoi, who is currently in the U.S. mainland, visiting his family.
He added that Dela Cruz has a broad knowledge of running the Little League program and knows how to coordinate with other leagues.
“Joey will be an ideal candidate for the presidency. Otherwise, the general membership should choose an individual with a drive and passion to continue improving and developing the local youth baseball program,” Rogolifoi said.
Rogolifoi is the current Executive Director of the Northern Marianas Sports Association and is a member of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) Sports Hall of Fame. He has represented the CNMI in various basketball and baseball off-island tournaments and guided the local baseball squad to the gold medal in the 2006 Micronesian Games on Saipan and the 2011Pacific Games in New Caledonia.
Meanwhile, SLLBI board is requesting all managers, coaches, parents and other interested individuals to attend the October meeting at 9am at the pavilion inside the Oleai Sports Complex. Aside from the board election, other details of the upcoming league will be discussed. (Jon Perez)
