Roberto’s opens at Gold Beach Hotel

A new restaurant that offers international cuisine with a Filipino touch has opened at the Gold Beach Hotel Saipan.

Roberto’s Restaurant and Café started operations on March 11 at the ground floor of the Beach Road landmark and, according to manager Dan Pacala, it has been enjoying brisk business, especially on Sundays when they offer a lunch buffet.

Pacala said their entry to the restaurant business comes after years of operating several gas stations on Saipan. He said they invested over $20,000 on the new business.

He said his family has always had a passion for food; they’ve tried out almost every restaurant and food outlet on the island.

Leah Castillon, Pacala’s sister, said the family also decided to open Roberto’s because they feel that the economy is getting better and people have more disposable income to eat out.

Aside from Filipinos on island, Roberto’s has also been attracting a good number of local residents, Americans, as well as Japanese, Chinese, and Korean tourists.

The newly opened restaurant has so far been getting high marks for its flying tilapia, pinakbet bagnet, beef stroganoff, seafood platter, Roberto’s pizza, and its signature fried rice.

As for the immensely popular Sunday buffet, Castillon said Roberto’s offers a spread of four main entrees, steamed and fried rice, soup, salad, as well as free iced tea.

Pacala said their Sunday lunch buffet is comparable to those offered by Saipan’s big hotels but without customers having to break the bank as it only cost an affordable $9.79.

Roberto’s, which is named after the family patriarch, comfortably sits 40 diners and is open Monday-Sunday from 10am to 2pm and 6pm to 10pm.

Pacala said they plan to open 24 hours a day as a service to guests of Gold Beach Saipan. Other future plans for Roberto’s include offering sushi in the menu, bento-style breakfast, and a delivery service.

For reservations, call Roberto’s at 235-2627.
