Robber sped off in blue Matrix car
The man who robbed the 7 Star Market along Dandan Road on Friday night fled on a blue Toyota Matrix sedan, police said yesterday.
Three witnesses described the car as having damage on the right rear portion, according to acting Department of Public Safety spokesman Jason Tarkong.
He said the suspect was about 5’4” to 5’6” tall, was wearing a black mask, black long-sleeved shirt, a pair of dark pants rolled up to his knees, and a pair of flip-flops.
The suspect was also armed with a black handgun and a machete, which was hidden in a green bag on his left hand.
The storeowner told Saipan Tribune that the suspect was injured because he fought with him.
Police investigation showed that the 49-year-old Chinese woman who owns the 7 Star Market in Dandan was closing down for the night when the armed suspect shouted at her to give him money. She told the suspect she had none.
The 25-year-old husband of the woman, who was in the back of the store, heard the commotion. He confronted the suspect.
The suspect pointed the handgun at the victims and swung the machete violently in the air with his left hand. The male storeowner threw an office chair at the suspect. The robber swung the machete, injuring the couple.
Three men, who were in a nearby residence, heard the scream of the Chinese storeowner. The three saw the suspect running out of the store and fleeing aboard the blue Toyota Matrix car. The robber managed to get an undetermined amount of cash.
A Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services ambulance brought the couple to the Commonwealth Health Center for treatment.
The storeowner suffered a cut on the left side of his cheek and the two fingers on his left arm. His wife was also injured in the arm and back.
DPS and NMI Crime Stoppers are seeking the public’s help for information about the suspect.
