The public is being warned of a high risk of rip currents along east facing shores through Sunday afternoon.

Based on the information received from the national Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center State Warning Point, trade-wind swell and wind waves are expected to produce surf up to 9 feet along east facing reefs increasing to 8 to 10 feet Friday. This surf will result in a high risk of rip currents along east facing shores.

The public is being warned that strong rip currents will be life threatening along east facing reefs. If you become caught in a rip current, remain calm. Stay afloat while waiting for help. To swim out of a rip current, swim parallel to shore then back toward the beach when possible. Do not attempt to swim directly against a rip current as you will tire quickly. (PR)
