Rintaro, Conatsu top SSC run
Miyawaki completed the 4.5-kilometer course that started and ended at the Minatchom Atdao pavilion across the Oleai Sports Complex with a turnaround at the Quartermaster Road in 19:12, missing the record (17:51) of last year’s overall top finisher Seiya Eda by just less than two minutes and surpassing the time (19:40) of 2012 champion Steve Pixley.
Conatsu came in more than a minute behind Miyawaki, but her 20:17 led the girls field. Conatsu defeated younger sister Coume, who reached the finish line fourth overall with her 23:22. Lennosuke Suzuki was the third overall finisher and second in the boys division after clocking in at 20:43.
Rinto Takahashi and Taiga Sato completed the Top 5 overall after submitting identical times of 23:55.
Lennosuke’s sibling, Jinnosuke, and Victoria Chentsova placed sixth and seventh, respectively, after tallying 24:07 and 24:08, while R.J. Pierce finished eighth with his 25:25.
Four other runners rounded the Top 10 with the trio of Christian Villacrusis, Kento Akimaru, and David Boyer crossing the finish line together and timing in at 25:25 and Wataru Kadokura recording 26:46. Wataru placed ahead of his older brother Akira, who posted 27:27.
More than 30 runners joined the annual event, about 50 short of last year’s count (88). There were lesser participants this year than last’s, as some runners had earlier commitments.
The fun run was SSC’s last event for this year, but several more are lined up in 2015. The club will start the new year with the Masters Meet on Jan. 24, followed by the Meek and Mighty Ocean Swim on Feb. 7. Other events remaining in SSC’s 2014-2015 calendar are the SSC International Meet (March 13 and 14), Escape from Managaha (April 11), Swim Marathon (April 23), Guam B/C Champs (May 2), Guam Swimming Federation Championships (May 29-30), Summer Fun Open Water 1 (June 6), Eagle Ray Ocean Swim (June 21), Summer Fun Open Water 2 (July 18), FINA World Championships 50m (July 24), and Summer Fun Open Water 3 (Aug. 2).
